Princess Scholarship Program


The Princess Scholarship Program is designed to recognize woman between the ages of 17 – 23, currently a high school senior or enrolled in an accredited university, who invest their time and energy in their community in a positive way.
Requirements
· A fulltime female student, currently a high school senior or attending an accredited university, college or professional school in the State of Michigan.
· Minimum accumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
· Must be 17 – 23 years of age
· Must be dedicated to serving as a Parade Princess Ambassador or Queen from September 2010 to September 2011
· Must be able to attend mandatory Volunteer & Interview Day at the Parade Studios in late August (TBD Saturday)
· Must be able to attend the Princess Tea in late September, announcing the finalist and scholarship winners (TBD Saturday)
· Must be available on Thanksgiving morning in Detroit from 8am – Noon. Parade Princess Ambassadors and Queen will ride in America’s Thanksgiving Parade® on their designated float with opportunity for media interviews
· Completed application with $25 application fee due by Friday, September 17, 2010
Criteria
Applicants are judged based on academics, campus & community involvement, personality and knowledge of America’s Thanksgiving Parade® as well as their completed application and interview.
Selection
The Princess Selection Committee consists of a panel of judges that will select the five finalists to be named to the 2010 Court of America’s Thanksgiving Parade® Princess Ambassadors & Queen. The final twenty applicants will be invited to The Parade Company Studios for Volunteer & Interview Day in August, during which, finalists will be interviewed by the panel of judges as well as have the opportunity to volunteer in our art studio, which produces the colorful floats you see each Thanksgiving on Woodward Avenue.
BENEFITS
· Each Princess Scholarship Program applicant will receive two tickets to the Princess Tea in September for the announcement of the finalists
· The four Parade Princess Ambassadors will each receive a $250 scholarship
· The final candidate will be named the 2010 America’s Thanksgiving Parade® Queen and will receive a $1,000 scholarship
· The five finalists (including the Queen) will ride in the 84th America’s Thanksgiving Parade®, which is broadcasted live locally on WDIV, Local 4 and syndicated nationally in 74.6 million households, as well as watched by thousands of Parade goers along Woodward Avenue
· Winners will be invited to attend Parade Company events throughout the fall including Preview Party and VIP Pancake Breakfast, as well as events surrounding the 2011 Fireworks
· Winners will receive a sash, award and crown to keep.
