Look for the Big Head Corps in America's Thanksgiving Parade on Thursday, November 26th
Membership for 2009 is CLOSED, but it's never too early to get ready for 2010!
The Parade Company is excited to report the tremendous success of the Big Head Corps and their first year marching in America’s Thanksgiving Parade®. Leading the Corps in their second trip down Woodward Avenue will be the 2009 Head Honcho Jim Dailey, Grosse Pointe native and Detroit Business Owner. Jim is the Director of Sales and Operations for Executive Travel & Incentives, a corporate incentives company based out of Detroit, but spans the globe. The whole ideaconception of the Big Head Corps began with Jim who started as a volunteer costume marcher wearing the Father Cunningham head in 2007. In seeking to get more people involved with the parade and the desire to show off the extravagant papier-mâché head collection owned by The Parade Company, the Big Head Corps was born. Beginning a volunteer costumed marcher, Jim first wore Father Cunningham in 2007, and then was a “Who” from the Grinch.
“We had a great turn out for our inaugural last year!” stated Dailey. “We want to double our numbers for 2009. We received numerous positive comments on how the heads looked in the parade and want to double our numbers for 2009. .The heads are an important piece of art and history that need to be restored and preserved for generations to come.” Jim was a “Who” from the Grinch in 2008.
There will be lots of several new options of head choices for 2009 including raccoons, hippos and ostriches. New costumes are being made and heads are being restored with with the money raised from last year’s efforts. While it was great to see the 95 heads walk down Woodward last year, it will be an even greater sight to see 200 on the street this year!
